Psychology is a philosophy and “the branch of metaphysics that studies the soul, the mind, and relationship of life and mind functions of the body.” In simple terms, IT IS THE STUDY OF THE MIND. It is our belief that human beings are born good, not evil, and may be influenced by factors before they are even born that alter the natural progression.
Natural progression can still be influenced by others and external stresses. Indulging or even experimenting with chemicals or drugs risks perils of permanent damage to our brains but also stamp forever a genetic imprint called DNA and we can pass this on to our offspring “forever”. We are shaped over time and molded by people, places and things.
Happiness is a basic truth that fulfills our journey through life. When you become aware of what happiness really is, you will begin to act in your best interests. And “what is in your best interest”? Sometimes in life’s journey we need someone to help us find what that is.
At Psychology and Rehabilitation Services we utilize a Holistic Therapy technique that focuses on gaining an awareness of the here and now or the present by tuning into our emotions and thoughts. However, we integrate another approach which is called Rational Behavior Therapy. Rational behavior focused on the “here and now” but it emphasizes the power of the brain or the mind to change the way we think which affects our feelings and consequently behaviors. In other words “if you change the way you think you can change the way you feel”. Of course this is not always true so we utilize both a holistic and rational approach which incorporates the two therapies.
We also provide:
- Psychological and cognitive testing
- In-Service training for continuing education
- Parent education and training
- Assertive training
- Anger management training
From a medical perspective, rehabilitation is usually a comprehensive program designed for patients to overcome deficits following injury and to assist them in regaining optimal mental and physical ability.
Rehabilitation is the process of restoration of skills from an injury or illness in order to regain maximum self-sufficiency and function in a normal or as near normal as possible. It is the act of restoring something or someone to an acceptable or satisfied state; and for the disabled person it means providing help to remove or reduce the disability. From a vocational or work perspective it means to train in a specific trade with the aim of gaining employment. Our belief is that rehabilitation occurs in the mind, the body, and the spirit. Injury can be a devastating experience that changes the course of our life and the lives of our loved ones.
Successful rehabilitation treats the individual and family while recognizing that the “Behavior of Groups and the Influence of Social Factors also affect the Individual”.
Successful recovery often includes:
- Good nutrition and diet
- Daily exercises
- Positive affirmations
- Improved positive self talk
- Spiritual guidance
